Jake Smith Wins 2024 Men’s Club Championship.

Once again, adverse weather conditions wreaked havoc on our 2024 golf fixtures. Following the cancellation of the 1st round of the Men’s Championship due to heavy rainfall on April 13th, we managed to proceed with the next two rounds a week later.

However, our hopes were dashed as the 3rd and 4th rounds were once again disrupted by inclement weather this past weekend.

In response to the deteriorating course conditions after the initial downpour on Saturday afternoon, the Captain and Vice-Captain took action and called off play as the greens became unplayable. Despite efforts to salvage the event, subsequent rainfalls further exacerbated the situation. By just after 2pm, it was evident that the event could not continue, prompting the decision to conclude it as a 36-hole affair. This decision was made considering the still flooded greens and the grim forecast predicting more heavy rain on Sunday.

While exploring all possible options, it became clear that extending the event was not feasible. Doing so would risk overlapping with other scheduled events, causing logistical complications throughout the year. Unfortunately, there’s no assurance that the persistent rain will relent anytime soon, making it imperative to finalize this year’s events despite the challenges posed by the weather.

Congratulations to Jake Smith who claimed the 2024 Men’s Championship after rounds of 72 & 70 (142 – 2 Under), last year’s Champion, Scott Mitchell was runner up on 150 after rounds of 75 & 75.
