Scott Mitchell – 2023 Men’s Club Champion!

45-year-old Scott Mitchell has broken a ten-year drought by claiming his second MCGC Club Championship today, after holding out Zach Quirk to claim a one-stroke victory.  He won his previous Championship back in 2013.

Mitchell has been a Mount Coolum member since 2004, and entered this Championship as one of the favourites – with a +1 handicap.  He recorded scores of 78.77.74.74 – 303.  Quirk’s final round of par 72 was one stroke short of forcing a play-off.

Jayden Smee broke free of Mark Cameron – with whom he shared the overnight lead, with a solid 87 in the final round for a three-stroke victory in B Grade.

Jayden shot 85.84.92.87 – 348, compared to Mark’s 85.88.88.90 – 351.

In C Grade, it was a case of avoiding the bad round that saw Rex Gillard cruise to a 7 stroke victory.  Rex who played in the Championships of 23, shot rounds of 98.97.95.96 – 386.  He was the only player to play four rounds in c Grade and not “raise the bat” for a score of 100+.

Jeff Williams was Runner-Up, finishing the second half of the Championship in stylish 92.95, after a relatively poor start of 99.107 for a total of 393.

Jarvis Miller and Tyson Mitchell – both of whom are only 12 years of age, were the only two Juniors to make the cut.  Jarvis took out the Junior Championship with rounds of 88.93.91.84 – 356, while Tyson shot 91.97.92.94 – 374.  Great scoring from these two young Members.

Steve Musgrave – a 6-handicapper that only joined the Club last September, won the Veterans Championship after posting rounds of 78.79.78.84 – 319, with Chris Rolph the runner-up.
