Mt Coolum Golf Club ‘covered in glory yet again’ with Veterans State Championship winners!

In addition to the Pennant and Women’s results (below) that were previously posted – Mt Coolum Golf Club has ‘covered itself in glory yet again’ with two of our Veteran members recently doing us proud at the Veteran’s State Championships.

Ralph Pasmore – B Grade Champion with a score of 168 (82/69 and 86/73).

Dave Cush – A Grade Net winner and with a score of 137 (75/64 and 84/73).

Other notable scores (Gross/Net) were:

Last week’s two-day event – the Horton Park Classic - was won by Mount Coolum’s Jenny Smallcombe.

Mount Coolum Women’s Team successfully defended the Caloundra Ladies Challenge Bowl.

Pennants

Weekday Grade 2 Women Pennant. In a nail-biting finish to a very stressful day (it was certainly stressful for the supporters and caddies – and the players!), Lyn Smith played a lovely approach shot to secure a vital win on the last hole to win the fixture against Tin Can Bay 4.5 to 0.5. This puts our girls into a TIE for first place in the Zone with Peregian Springs. These two teams will have a playoff at Cooroy on Monday 21st May to decide the finalist to play in the Zone final at Horton Park on Monday May 28th. Make sure you come along and support the Ladies!

The Mt Coolum Weekday Grade 3 Women Pennant team had a good win 5/4 over Nambour to win the North Division. They will play off against the winner of Division 3 South in the Zone Final (venue and date TBA).

Entries flood in for 2012 Men’s Club Championship

After being open for less than a week, over 60 entrants have already signed up for the the Men’s Club Championship. The usual competition timesheet for Saturday 26th May opens up to allcomers from 6pm this Friday. So if you want to secure your place in the Championships, pay $36 at the pro shop, and the boys will book you in for all four rounds.

Remember, to play in the Championship costs $36 and it is a 4-round tournament – without a pay-as-you-go option. No further entry fee is required to play in the daily competitions.

2012 MCGC CLUB CHAMPS FLYER

The Club Championship is the MCGC Members’ peak annual golf event. The battle for Club Champion is a hotly-contested event. And this year should be no different as there are also many other prestigious Honour Board and graded trophies up for grabs.

However, we have noticed that while there are around 190 men with a handicap in the 24 to 36 range, only around 6 participate in all four rounds of the Club Championship!

In line with Golf Queensland’s slogan of ‘More People Playing More Golf’, the Men’s Match Committee is encouraging those players by introducing a D Grade Championship. The success and future of this grade’s Championship depends on those of you in the 24 to 36 handicap range.

But, it’s not just about D Grade. As the table below shows, we have very low participation rates in all grades except A Grade. So, come and play in YOUR Club Championship this year. And let’s grow our peak event to full fields (240 players) in the future.

Steve Jenkins’ former trainee professional, Drew McLellan, is in T2 after round 1 of the Blackwater Country Club Mine Workers Pro-Am. Drew shot a 7-under 65 to be only 1 shot behind the leader on the 2×9-hole course. Steve’s new trainee, Ben Thomson is in T12 after a 3-under 69.
