Round 3 Junior Pennant Results – Mt Coolum Vs Headland @ Mt Coolum

Round 3 Junior Pennant – Mt Coolum Vs Headland @ Mt Coolum

A good result for the lads with 4 wins and a draw over Headland

TJ King halved his match after a great struggle against Jack Trent. TJ was a little stiff when his ball rolled off the 18th after a difficult approach out of the rough.

Zac Quirk again showed that accurate consistent golf is very hard to beat and he won 4 & 3.

Lochie Coleborn, after winning A Grade on Saturday off the black tee blocks, backed up with a fantastic 6 & 5 win. Lochie is the giant killer and again demonstrated that the secret to golf is to play straight and chip & putt well. Lochie was team Captain for the day.

Leighton Martin won 6 & 4 after being down early in the match. Ryan Edwards caddied again for Leighton and they are becoming a formidable team.

Ryan Stephenson, with help from his dad, fought back to win 1 up. Ryan had some trouble during the match but kept his head to win on the last hole.

This is a great effort by the team as Headland is a strong combination with 4 of their 5 players on a 6 or lower handicap.

Well done boys – keep up the great work.

Junior Pennant Results – Round 2

Our MCGC Junior Pennant team played the second round of 2012 against Nambour at Horton Park in very good conditions. The weather was great and the course was terrific.

TJ King lost 6/5 after being only 5 over after 13 holes. He struck a player in hot form.

Zac Quirk (Match Captain) chipped in from greenside rough on 17 to win 3/2. Zac again kept the ball in play with good straight golf.

Lochie Coleburn played his normal “target” golf to win 5/4. A very good comeback from last week.

Leighton Martin won on the 18th 1 up. It was a steady game and he won with the help of Ryan Edwards as his caddie.

Ryan Stephenson won 2/1 in an epic see-saw match.

This is a great effort from the lads.

The boys on the 18th after their win

Junior Pennant Results – Rnd 1

Round 1 Junior Pennant Results – 29 Jan 2012

Our team played Peregian Springs. We didn’t expect to play at Peregian Springs after all the wet weather, but they got the course into very good condition, albeit wet and soggy.

The Peregian Springs boys outplayed our team on the day and came away with the win 4 & 1. Our boys were disappointed but they all played with vigor and style.

Zac Quirk won 4 &2 with a very solid round of consistent straight golf. TJ King went to the 18th but lost 1 down.

Leighton Martin was struggling until Ryan Eddie started caddying and he then won back some holes to finish on 18 just 2 down. Ryan Stephenson , playing in his first pennant match lost 3 & 2 but showed great potential by fighting back from 5 down.

Lochie Coleborn put up a great effort against a bigger player but lost 7 & 5. Lochie, whose great skill is his accuracy and short game, was severely handicapped by the wet and soft conditions. He will play better as the conditions dry.

The team looked great in their uniform and looked very professional, thanks to the Vets and to Steve Jenkins. The attitude and commitment of the boys was fantastic and they were the only team that stayed on the course to support those players not yet finished. The whole team then walked back to the clubhouse as a group.

We look forward to our match at Horton Park next week where we play Nambour.

The team is as listed. If some of our other young golfers become available they may be added to the squad. We have suffered the effects of schooling, other sports and family relocation. However, we have a good bunch of juniors to represent our club and they will do well.

Titleist Summer Classic Wrap-Up

Greg Norman Foundation Titleist Summer Classic

This is the 10th year the Summer Classic has been held at Mt Coolum. The event was played over 36 holes in very wet conditions, so much so that some greens had to be squeegee dried so that play could continue. The full results will be posted on the GNF web site www.gngf.org.au. The invincible Tour also runs events on the day and their results will be on theinvinciblestour.org.

These events are not run by Mt Coolum Golf Club, so players must be members of these junior golf organisations to play in the tournament. It was a strong field of about 130 players that struggled under the poor conditions. Mind you, the course was in very good condition.

Two of our players did well. Zac Quirk won Best Gross Divison 2 and Lochie Coleborn was second to Zac. Lochie also qualified to play in the Gold Cup of Cups event run by the Invincibles Tour at the end of the year.

The Young Guns

Sunday saw the 1st Round of the Invincibles Tour Matchplay Championships held here at Mt Coolum. Four of our juniors, Zac Quirk, Lockie Coleborn  and Wade Stockill & Shae Wools-Cobb (both shared with Horton Park) competed in this major junior event.

Wade defeated Zac 2&1. A great effort by Zac as Wade is our 2010 Club Champion and won our 2011 Club Matchplay Championship. Lochie staged a massive comeback from 3 down with 3 to play and won his match on the 19th hole.  Shae, our current Club Champion, played solid golf to win 6&5.

Zac & Lochie are in our Junior Pennant team, which gives us hope of a good performance this year.

Wade & Shae will do well at Horton, I’m sure. They are most welcome here at Mt Coolum as they bring good golf to the club to share with our juniors.
