Executive Day Success

Golf Management Australia (QLD Division) recently held their Executive Day at Lakelands Golf Club on the Gold Coast.

The purpose of the Executive Day is to allow representatives of the PGA, Golf Queensland, Secretary/Managers, General Managers and Management Committees to meet and interact with each other to build relationships, and to improve the exchange of information, understanding and communication throughout all levels of the golf industry.

And, of course, there is some golf involved too! This year’s winners of the 4Ball Stableford event were our own Sharon Purnell (Sec/Man) and Scott Mayes (Men’s Captain) with a credible 48 points despite the heavy rain. Unfortunately, our other pairing of Robert Gatt (President) and Peter Borham (Treasurer) could only manage 33 points on the excellent Lakelands layout. With just 3 more team points, Mt Coolum Golf Club would have again been the recipients of the prestigious Ted Coker Shield. There’s always next year!

The day concluded with dinner, and an information-packed presentation by internationally renowned social researcher and demographer, Mark McCrindle.

Later in the year, Mt Coolum Golf Club will be hosting the Sunshine Coast Executive Day. Board and sub-committee members from golf clubs across the Sunshine Coast will take part in the annual meeting.

Australia Day Fun & Games

Several of our members made the most of a wet and soggy Australia Day by partaking in some fun and games in the Clubhouse. See the attached photogragh sent in by Barry Degenhardt.

As Barry says, the clubhouse – and Paula our Caterer in the Bistro – can offer a great venue and dining options for a Birthday, Wedding, Anniversary… or any old excuse for a bit of fun and games!

Sponsorship Opportunities

The 2012 Member’s Program of Events (Fixture Book) is nearing completion.

Corporate and Individual Sponsorship are an invaluable part of our Club’s success. Proceeds help support the continual improvement of the golf course and clubhouse. Most other Golf Clubs on the Sunshine Coast enjoy more than 60% sponsorship of events. We hope you will help us make 2012 the most successful yet by considering one of the following opportunities:

2 Day Package                                    $200

4 Day Package                                    $375

6 Day Package                                    $525

Midweek Medals (12)                          $1,000

NOW is the perfect time to contact the Club about sponsoring an event to ensure your name or Business is included in the Fixture Book.

Your name will be displayed on the timesheet, results, newspaper and on the information TV in the clubhouse.

So get your 3 of your mates together and form a syndicate.

Maybe mention this opportunity to any of your local small business operators. We can all do our bit for the Club by approaching businesses in our community.

Sponsorship Packages 2012

Please feel free to contact Sharon Purnell (Secretary Manager) on 5446 1539 – ext 2, if you require any further details or are interested in sponsoring an event.

Recent Club Appointments

Management Committee Appointments

At Monday night’s Management Committee meeting, Mr Robert Gatt was ratified as Club President and Mr Vin Davies was appointed as Vice-President. Welcome aboard Vin.

Among other duties, the Vice-President deputizes for the President as required, assists and advises the President as required, assists in the preparation of agendas for Management Committee meetings and general meetings, continually evaluates the Management Manual and administrative system and, assisted and advised by the Secretary-Manager, submits recommendations to the Management Committee.

Junior Appointments

Barry Degenhardt has not slowed down since retiring as Club Captain. Among other roles within the Club, he is now the Junior Co-ordinator and this week he initiated a wonderful Junior mentoring programme for the Club’s growing band of young talent.

The boys conducted their own election for Junior Captain and Vice-Captain which included impressive spontaneous nomination speeches by the candidates.

Congratulations to TJ King (Junior Captain and 5 handicap) and Zach Quirk (Vice-Captain and 8 handicap). One of their first tasks is to select a special Junior “Club” shirt that will be worn with pride whenever the children play at any of the multitude of junior events around South-East Queensland.

Pictured with just some of the kids are Kevin Smith, Barry Degenhardt and Club Professional Steve Jenkins.

2011 Junior Golfers

Caterer

The selection process has been completed and the club now has a new Caterer, Paula Bowie from Food Passion Catering will commence on the 1st November (Melbourne Cup Day).  Support from members would be greatly appreciated – please make her feel welcome.

Office Staff

The specific duties and responsibilities and level of experience and expertise for our administrative positions are being assessed. Some members may not realised the complex issues and compliance requirements in administering the golf club – such as marketing, accounts and finance, functions, member issues, stocktaking, bar, gaming, golf course, and obviously, golf competitions and social golf. All of these tasks are presently performed by the Secretary-Manager. It is hoped that the new position will assume much of the compliance and administrative burden and release the Manager for higher duties.

Once this process is completed, the position will be advertised and an appointment made as soon as possible.
